Red Cross continues tornado assistance in New Orleans area

The Red Cross continues to respond after a deadly tornado ravaged the New Orleans metro area in the early morning hours of Feb. 13, 2007. With more than 300 homes affected in the area, several American Red Cross chapters have been providing services to residents as they begin the long and arduous clean-up effort.

Severe winter weather brings added safety warnings

Snow, freezing rain and low temperatures are just some of the winter weather conditions creating problems this week in areas from the Heartland through the Midwest into New England and along the East Coast. Severe weather that has included sleet and hail in some areas is resulting in power outages, commuting delays and traffic accidents, school and business closings and flight delays or cancellations.

Overnight storm, apparent tornado strike New Orleans area

Residents and visitors in New Orleans and surrounding communities received a rude and frightening awakening when an apparent tornado struck the area at 3:30 this morning, knocking out power and damaging buildings including homes and hotels.

Advocates lead the battle against measles

They come in all ages, genders, ethnicities and from all walks of life. They are students and teachers, parents and children, board members and young professionals. Who are they? They are American Red Cross volunteers and measles advocates, who are responsible for raising awareness and support for the Measles Initiative.
